7 Quick Takes Friday #65

See more 7 Quick Takes Friday contributions at Jennifer Fulwiler's Conversion Diary.

This has been a much better week than last week. I spent most of it visiting our Georgia site, where I could visit with daughter Lizzie; then today, I got to go to my deputy's retirement ceremony and after that to share dinner with a friend from Uzbekistan.

More important, though, were the God moments that pervaded this week. Seven of them are shared below.

1. This week as I have traveled to and from Georgia, I have been reading an interesting book: The Overcomer's Anointing by Barbara Yoder. In spite of the strangeness (to me) of the title, the book has turned out to be enlightening. I purchased it in order to learn more about spiritual warfare in order to help a friehttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifnd who is in the throes of a dark night of the soul. Yoder's take on the dark night is that this is a period of transformation, that God uses such a period before transforming many things, including the creation of the earth. Although this is indeed in keeping with the works of St. John of the Cross, Yoder's book is more accessible than Dark Night of the Soul.

2. I was accompanied to/from Georgia by a colleague, Sue. We were a little concerned that she did not have a confirmed seat on the flight back. Apparently, the plane had been oversold by seven people. It was important that we travel together because Donnie was picking us up in San Francisco (more than an hour away), and Sue, who lives yet another hour south, was planning to come home with me and stay overnight, then continue home. Not arriving with me would really complicate matters. Luckily, volunteers appeared to give up seats, and she got the third one. Whew! We happily clambered into the plane where I found that my seat, alas, was non-reclining, in the last row (aisle, at least), and right in front of the toilet. I figured it was going to be a long 5.5 hours, but had accepted the reality of the situation, telling myself that someone had to be in that seat and it might as well be me, when the person in the middle seat appeared and asked if I would change seats with his friend who was seated in a B seat in row 20. I concurred -- after all, who wants to separate friends? I figured a middle (B) reclining seat was no worse than an aisle non-reclining seat. Imagine my surprise when I found out that 20B was in the exit row -- and there was no A seat. Was God rewarding me for accepting my lot to begin with and being willing to help out a stranger in the second place? I wonder... (In any event, it was a late evening flight, and I reclined the seat, donned an attitude of gratitude, stretched out, and slept the whole way home!)

3. Once home, it was nearly morning, but I got a few hours of sleep, then quickly looked through the mail that had arrived during the week. One was a note from the new formation director at the Secular Franciscan Order (SFO). He will be replacing Goliath. Yes! His note revealed that there would be a place now for God in our formation. Yes!

4. When Sue arose in morning, she took one look out our window at the view of our town and valley and remarked that we are close to heaven here. We are indeed. She agreed that not only the house was a blessing but also that there is likely a reason we are supposed to have it because everything was so "right" about getting it, including the price, which was considerably lower than the house is worth and exactly in the price range that we could afford and were looking for. For that reason, we had no trouble getting a VA loan, and I had, surprisingly, no trouble finding my 1978 (!!) VA certificate of eligibility.

5. I always go to Mass on Friday -- well, almost always. Sometimes events intervene. Today I was going to be late, so I decided to skip Mass. At that point, my admin assistant appeared in my office, reminding me that Mass was starting. I commented that I did not have time to arrive before Mass began, and she commented, "God understands if you are late." I was briefly contemplating whether or not to go when a colleague's admin assistant popped in and made the same comment! Considering that God might be sending me a message, I decided to go. I am glad I did. The rest of the day is always better when I do.

6. My deputy retired today. I will miss him. He brought a spiritual flavor to all our interactions. (A Roman Catholic like me, he wants to study theology in his retirement, and when he showed up three years ago, I knew God had sent him to me.) True to style, his parting remarks left us spiritually rejuvenated -- this in an organization that insists on the separation of church and state.

7. This week I had another go-round with God's credit card. I had not intended to use it for a personal purchase, but I really got stuck two weeks ago. We had to get a special bed for Donnie, who has been unable to sleep in our current bed because of his sleep apnea, gout, and infected leg. He needed an adjustable bed, and those are very expensive, especially one that we can share. We found an appropriate bed in San Jose. I assumed that we would be able to get the bed on credit, but the cost of the bed was such that the company would only allow half the cost to be put on its credit. Stuck there and having God's credit card with me that would easily handle the other half, I hesitated, sighed, then handed it over. Well, as in the past when I have used the card, God changed matters. The company sent a second credit account in the mail this week. Donnie called today and asked what that meant and was told that we can transfer the amount we put on God's credit card to this second credit account and there would be no interest charged as long as we paid off the account on time (in three years). Wow! It seems quite clear that God intends to keep God's credit card open for God's needs, not mine. This is the second time I have been given a new credit card to which to transfer a balance. Unreal!

I wish you a pleasant weekend!

Stephen Hawking

Stephen Hawking was born on January 8, 1942 from Dr. partner. Frank Hawking, a biologist, and Isobel Hawking. He has two siblings, that is Philippa and Mary, and brother of adoption, parents Edward.Orang Hawking lives in North London and moved to Oxford when Hawking's mother was pregnant with her to find a safer place. (London was under attack German Luftwaffe). After Hawking was born, the family returned to London. His father then headed the division of parasitology at the National Institute for Medical Research. In 1950, Hawking and his family moved to St. Albans, Hertfordshire.

There he attended St. Albans High School for Girls from 1950 to 1953 (in those days, men can get into the girls' school until the age of ten years). From the age of eleven, Hawking goes to St. Albans

Stephen Hawking is a theoretical physicist. He was a Lucasian professor of mathematics at Cambridge University and a member of Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. He is known for his contributions in the field of quantum physics, especially because of his theories concerning the theory of cosmology, quantum gravity, black holes, and Hawking radiation. One of his writings is A Brief History of Time, which is listed on the London Sunday Times bestseller list for 237 consecutive weeks. In 2010 Hawking with Leonard Mladinow compile the book The Grand Design.

Despite having tetraplegia (paralysis) due to amyotrophic lateral amiotrofik, continued his scientific career for over forty years. The books and public appearances he made as a celebrity academic and theorists world-renowned physicist.

Hawking was always interested in science. He was inspired by his math teacher named Dikran Throne to study mathematics at university. His father wanted Hawking into University College, Oxford, where her father had attended. Hawking then studied natural science. He got a scholarship, and then specialize in physics.

Having received his B.A. at Oxford in 1962, he stayed to study astronomy. He chose to go to learn that studying sunspots and Hawking did not suit him more interested in theory rather than observation. Hawking then entered Trinity Hall, Cambridge. He studied theoretical astronomy and cosmology.

Soon after arriving in Cambridge, symptoms of amyotrophic lateral amiotrofik (ALS) which will make him lose almost all control neuromuskularnya began to emerge. In 1974, he was unable to eat or wake up alone. Her voice becomes clear that only can be understood by those who knew him well. In 1985, he was hit by pneumonia and tracheostomy should be done so that he can not speak at all. A Cambridge scientist makes a tool that allows Hawking to write what he wants to say to a computer, and then be articulated through a voice synthesizer '

Hawking believes that extraterrestrial life exists, and it uses a mathematical basis for his assumption. "According to matematisku brain, the figure shows that the existence of aliens is very rational. The biggest challenge is to predict what kind of aliens." He believes that aliens not only exist on the planets, but probably also elsewhere, such as stars or floating in the vast space. Hawking also warn that some alien species may have an advanced civilization and could threaten the Earth. Relationship with such a species could endanger the entire human race. He said, "If aliens are visiting us, the result will be the same as when Columbus landed in America, which did not end well for Native Americans". Hawking also suggested, rather than trying to contact aliens, we should avoid contact with

Hawking married to Jane Wilde, a language student, in 1965. Jane Hawking care of it until their divorce in 1991. They divorced because of the pressures of fame and increased disability Hawking. They have three children: Robert (born 1967), Lucy (born 1969), and Timothy (born 1979). Last Hawking married his nurse, Elaine Mason (formerly married to David Mason, a computer designer talk Hawking), in 1995. In October 2006, Hawking asked for a divorce from his second wife.

When asked about the IQ in 2004, Hawking replied, "I do not know. People who boast IQ is a loser."

Hawking takes an agnostic position on the issue of religion. He has used the word "God" (metaphorically) to illustrate points in his books and speeches. His ex-wife, Jane, said during divorce proceedings that Hawking is an atheist. Hawking said that he was "not religious in common sense" and he believes that "the universe is governed by the laws of science. The law may be made by God, but God did not intervene to break the law." Hawking to compare religion and science in 2010, stated: "There are fundamental differences between religions, based on authority, [and] science, based on observation and reason. Science is going to win because it's proven."

In September 2010, The Telegraph reported, "Stephen Hawking has stated that God is not the creator of the universe". Hawking writes in his book, The Grand Design, that "Due to a law like gravity, the solar system can and will form itself. Spontaneous Creation is the reason why there is now 'something' and not nothingness, why the universe exists and we exist. There is no need asking the Lord to start moving things and the universe. "

Sylvester Stallone Biography

Sylvester Stallone Gardenzio (born in New York City, USA, July 6, 1946, age 64 years) is an actor, director and screenwriter United States. He has the nickname "Sly". His middle name is sometimes called "Enzio," and in A & E one of the actor's biography, The Rocky Road to the Top, she gave the middle name "Gardenzio." He was one of the great legends of success in live action films, his roles include the Rocky and Rambo series.

This young man was born from a poor family in New York. His mother was forced to give birth da ditangga door of a school. As a result of births that is not smooth, he suffered a nervous disorder in the face, right side of his face is not normal. He also spoke stuttering, and his lips are always turned down. He is often ridiculed as a cartoon character in Looney Tunes cat who happens to resemble his name. Because of its shortcomings, in adolescence he was put to school for children who have special needs.

He has a dream to become an actor. To pursue his dream of becoming a famous actor, this boy auditioned everywhere. But the face "like a mental defective" and the stuttering style of speech, and acting which looks stiff, he always refused to make any role he wanted. But he never gave up, you will be surprised to know how many times he was denied an agent in New York. He rejected as much as 1500 times, even the total number of film agents in New York is not that much. That is, some agents have repeatedly rejected.

After a failed audition everywhere, he finally determined. To get the first role he had insisted. He came go to agency at 4:00 pm but the film agent who visited refused to meet him. The next morning when the agent came into office he found the boy still waiting. He waited all night. Finally, the agent did not have the heart and give him a chance. His wife always said look for real jobs that have nothing to do with acting, but he insisted did not want to bury the dreams in the world of acting. His life increasingly difficult, he was forced to sell her jewelry. At this point in his life beautiful he was forced to sell pet dog named Timmy. He struggled for months until one day he did not have any money. Timmy is very close to him, like a friend, he was forced to sell his dog with only a price of U.S. $ 25 to be able to connect his life, because it was really bankrupt, could not even eat. At that time he cried.

In the turmoil he was watching a boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Chuck Webner, a weak boxer who according to forecasts and more people will be torn down for 3 rounds, it turns out Webner has a steadiness and perseverance. He can complete a total of 15 rounds against Ali because he refused to surrender. Easygoing was so inspired by the spectacle and emerged a vision of a film that he would write manuscript. That night he also wrote and wrote for 3 days without stopping, until the movie script is complete. He was very happy with the manuscript, because in His thoughts he knew that the manuscript the story will be a film that changes the lives and fate. His hands shook as looking up the manuscript.

Then ut submit his writings to the film producer. But no one gave a serious response to the text of the story. But he never stopped trying. He offers a story script and rejected more than a hundred times to all producers and movie studios. Until one day, there is a studio would dare buy a manuscript worth U.S. $ 20,000 on condition that the main character starring by Ryan O'Neal and Brut Reynolds. He is excited about the offer, but want to keep his own star in the film. Then he offered to play free of charge. The director refused. Although actually in desperate need of money, he insisted refused to sell the script unless he could be a star. The producers continue to raise its bid $ 80,000, $ 125,000, $ 250,000 to $ 325,000, but the boy insisted would not want to sell a movie script unless he played the main characters. He promised to play nice.

Producers finally agreed and made him the main character in the film, but only for a fee of $ 20,000 for filmscript plus $ 340 per week minimum wage according to an actor. Having cut costs, agent commissions, and taxes, he just got a net income $ 6,000 instead of $ 325,000
This is the story of Sylvester Stallone or can be abbreviated as "Sly". Sly realized, after 1500 times of rejection, Rocky screenplay that made possible the only gate to the main role, so he would not release Rokcy role to others. Although her low-budget U.S. $ 1,000,000 and starring actors are not famous at that time, that is Stallone himself, the film explodes in the market and make money worth U.S. $ 200 million or 200-fold.

From the Rocky movie that starred he was nominated for an Academy Award as best actor. The film won three Oscars for best picture, best director and best screenplay. After Rocky, continue to accompany success for decades to come. He again went on to become an icon in the action movie character Rambo. Youth italy descendants became ikon machismo (manliness) in Hollywood action films.

He became an actor in the world's largest printer box office during the year 1970 to 1990. Serial Rocky (Rocky 1-5) and Rambo (1-4) reached almost U.S. $ 1 billion, and Stallone made the most expensive people international movie star.

What was accomplished today is the fruit of his determination to maintain a dream to become a movie star.

If he gave up the manuscript Rocky starring someone else might he received U.S. $ 325,000 for the script but he lost his opportunity, which may be the only one, to become a major star.

About the rejection they experienced he said "i take rejection as someone blowing a Bugle in my ear to wake up and get going, rather than retreat".
"I consider rejection as someone blowing a trumpet on the ear to wake us not to retreat"

Monday Morning Meditation #86: Of First Fruits, Filled Barns, and Overflowing Vats

During this week, I continued to read further in the book of Proverbs. I have enjoyed the reading very much, and I have found much worthy of attention. I was particularly struck by verses 9 and 10 in Chapter 3. They hit home in an interesting way for nearly every pay day I am faced with a set of choices that include bills, donations, kids (charity begins at home, as they say), savings and investments (not much money available for that, but we try) and, upon rare occasion, some leisure activity (not much time available for that, but we also try in this area). Verse 9 is the key one, in my opinion.
9. Honor the LORD with your wealth, with first fruits of all your produce;
10. Then will your barns be filled with grain, with new wine your vats will overflow.
Reading: Proverbs 3:9-10.

Meditation: Pay days always bring a host of decisions, especially when the money does not stretch to cover all planned needs and unplanned contingencies. Take this past week, for example. Lizzie called to say that her cat, Princesse, had broken her paw and needed $2250 for surgery, which Lizzie did not have. Sixteen-year-old Princesse is an immigrant from Tunisia and has been Lizzie's constant companion through college, graduate school, and two professorial assignments. There is no question that she was worth every penny of the surgery, but Lizzie did not have the money, which was demanded upfront by the pet hospital. This was one of those unplanned contingencies. In addition, I needed to come up with the planned purchase of special milk for Nikolina who cannot digest regular milk because of her short bowel. It costs $300 for a month's supply, and Shane, having lost his job when her medical expenses became too much for his employer's insurance company ($2 million during her first six months of life), needs help coping with the lower salary he makes from the replacement job he was able to find. Of course, we have the same food and mortgage needs as everyone else. So, where does the money to give to God come from?

For some reason, from the moment of my conversion, I have not worried about this. Perhaps it was the way in which I was converted that produced the deep trust that allows me to give to God from my first fruits through donations and by committing funds when led to using God's credit card to help others. I have found that by giving to God first, the funds for my remaining needs, no matter what they are and how impossible it seems to cover them, always appear.

A little over two years ago, I was approached for a small donation for St. Francis Retreat Center, a local retreat center which does much good for many people. The center had burned down and needed to be rebuilt. I learned that the fundraising committee had raised much of the $1 million needed to rebuild but was still in need of $50,000 in order to construct the center's kitchen. After much prayer, I felt certain I was being led to donate this amount, but it would require about 15% of my income from every paycheck for five years (in addition to the 10% I was already donating to Old Mission and other diocesan/Christian charities). Yikes! How could I possibly manage 25% of my income for that 5-year period. Nonetheless, certain that God wanted me to make this commitment, I did, trusting that where God asked for what I did not have, God Himself would provide the difference. The pledge astonished the fundraising committee and the priest director; they knew I did not have this kind of money. Nonetheless, inspired by my trust, they went ahead and took out a bank loan for the full amount, and the kitchen (and rest of the center) has long ago been built. For nearly two-and-a-half years, every pay day, I have somehow found the pledged amount among my "first fruits," and it appears that my pledge will be paid off on time and so will the center's loan. Sometimes, I have had to make a sacrifice of some sort here and there (no vacation this year, for example), but, for the most part, money has appeared from unplanned sources (extra royalties, requests for consultations, etc.) in fulfillment of God's promise of barns filled and vats overflowing.

Contemplation: That is far as I can go with you this Monday morning. I now retire to private prayer to thank God for His great trustworthiness upon which I rely. I will praise God for the multitudinous ways in which He helps me to keep my promises to Him. I will ask God to deepen my trust, and, as God knows, I seriously repent those times where my trust could have been stronger. Then I will move on to contemplation, my favorite part of the day, letting God take over the direction in which my relationship with Him moves.

I will leave you now to your prayer and contemplation. First, though, I would like to bring to your attention a Monday morning prayer post that you might enjoy:

Fr. Austin Fleming, priest of the Archdiocese of Boston and pastor in Concord, Massachusetts, posts a prayer each Monday morning that he calls "Monday Morning Offering." I enjoy his prayers very much. I think you also will find them inspirational. He has graciously given me permission to include a link to his blog on my Monday Morning Meditation posts. (During the week, he also posts great homilies and other thoughtful discussions. I enjoy reading those, too, as do readers of this blog who have taken the stroll over to his blog.)

For additional inspiration throughout the week, I would point out two sets of blogs: (1) the list of devotional blogs on my sidebar and (2) my blogroll, where I am following a number of inspirational priests and writers about spiritual matters. I learn so very much from all these people. I highly recommend them to you.

Spiritual Sunday #29: Daily Life and Prayer Life - A Form of Schizophrenia

For more Spiritual Sunday posts, I recommend that you wander over to the website of Charlotte and Ginger, who host the Spiritual Sunday meme.

Because I do not blog on Sundays -- keeping it as the sabbath, a practice started by Fr. Christian Mathis (Blessed Is the Kingdom) -- I use older posts (forgotten perhaps but hopefully still interesting) from one or another of my blogs that seem appropriate for this meme. It seems to work to bring out the older posts that many have not read before or ones from other blogs I maintain that readers of 100th Lamb may not know about.

This week I decided to post something quite pragmatic. It comes from my Modern Mysticism blog: Daily Life and Prayer Life: A Form of Schizophrenia?

Wishing you a peaceful Sunday!

7 Quick Takes Friday #64

See more 7 Quick Takes Friday contributions at Jennifer Fulwiler's Conversion Diary.

Yowie! What a brutal end to a brutal week! I finally crawled home from work at 9:00 this evening -- exhausted and hungry. Too hungry to make my own dinner, so I called Donnie and he called in for pizza for dinner. I picked it up on the way home and then pigged out. So much for the diet! And so much for a peaceful stomach; it is now complaining. I did not think I had the energy -- brain is a bit fried -- to think about one quick take, let alone about seven anythings, but I seem to have been able to concentrate long enough to do so.

1. Program reviews. I did a program review at our Nebraska site last week. This week I did two program reviews. They absorb much energy. The team leaders have to present all aspects of the program to me, analyze the reasons for both their failures and successes, and identify what kinds of support they need from me or my bossery. One pleasant aspect f the Tuesday review -- my deputy who recently retired came in for the review! He had put a lot of energy into the program and wanted to be part of this important annual event. There is something especially warm, refreshing, and comforting to have someone do that.

2. The giving of cups. We recently had to release 15 people whose project had ended. I was able to arrange for 12 of them to be employed in another division. The remaining three had performed poorly, so it has been difficult to place them. Likely, they will be out of work. It is difficult to watch them run from one manager to another, pleading for a job. On the other hand, they made the choice to perform poorly; the problems were all associated with behavior, not with the skills. When people are misbehaving, I wonder why they don't look forward far enough into the future to realize that they may be limiting their own longevity in the firm. I enjoy working with and helping difficult people, but in this case, they are dependent upon others loving impossible people and that does not often occur. When employees leave us, I give them a coffee cup that says, "Bon voyage! Thanks for making our organization a better place." Everyone really likes them in spite of the sad part: it means that they are leaving. This week, I handed out several cups and several hugs to those who had been able to find new jobs. (Still working on those other three...)

3. Sakai. I have been at the mercy of one of tech directors -- in the positive meaning of that word. I am *not* tech savvy, yet we are going further and further down the road of technification (hm, my dictionary does not think there is any such word, but I know that it is happening to me). Our most recent ventures have been into the use of Sakai for training and Elluminate for meeting. More and more of our employees are teleworking and more and more of our meetings are taking place virtually. All this tech is a piece of cake for employees who are my children's age. As for me, I am at the mercy of patient employees who are willing to spend considerable time getting me to learn to use programs that are anything except transparent to me.

4. CEO's meeting. We don't have CEO meetings often, but we did have one Wednesday morning. That was very odd because the CEO was on leave! (It is bad enough to have these long, boring, tell-us-what-everyone-already-knows-you-are-doing meetings which require me to drive another 10 miles, park very away [I can never find parking at headquarters; cars are always packed in, leaving no space for visitors], and hike 15 minutes uphill to the CEO's conference room. Doing so without the CEO even present makes going through the motions even less fun and desirable.

5. Sick leave. I took sick leave Wednesday afternoon, just in time for a sanity break. I was not sick -- Donnie needed the car to go to the hospital for follow-up on his infected leg -- which is nonetheless a sick leave absence at our organization. I guess people did not realize what was going on. Since I am almost never sick, people, worried, started emailing me "get better soon" wishes. I did "get better soon" because I was able to spend almost eight hours working on my various writing projects, including the forever-forthcoming book, Believer in Waiting.

6. Union president. I had one lunch this week. Seriously! That is how brutal the week has been -- no time even to eat in spite of trying. Moreover, the one lunch I had was a working lunch! At least, though, it was pleasant. About once a quarter, I have a relaxed lunch with the union president -- no real business, so calling it a working lunch is not quite accurate. It is a way for us to relax together without thinking about us being on opposite sides of some questions -- actually, we are not. We are both on the side of employees; we just come at the questions from a different perspective.

7. Editorial committee. We are publishing an in-house journal, the first ever. I got permission, then rounded up my most literate people into an editorial committee. We put out a call for articles, then reviewed them, picking the best for publication and sending most of them back to the authors for some level of redaction. We are about three months out from having the journal together. The editorial committee met this afternoon to take the penultimate steps. There was an air of excitement and pending accomplishment -- not a bad way to end the afternoon (after which I had to wade through more than four hours of administrivia).

And that, my friends, constituted about 25% of my week!!!

And now I am going to crawl from the sofa to bed. I wish you a pleasant weekend!

2011 Aprilia Tuono V4R Review

It 'a sunny morning in Valencia, and are at the Ricardo Tormo circuit sipping coffee while listening to the roaring 20 V4 powered Tuonos must be heated to Pit Lane. One of them is mine, all mine, because the day is devoted to the mechanics - I get treated like the star of MotoGP.

I will start the first session with the traction control set at a level six, and then subtracts one each round until they are down a level. 2011 Aprilia Tuono V4R is a bit 'a shock to the system, because it pulls like a raging bull all over, and stops as if the freight train suddenly started to play again. When I finished second 20 minute session I feel a hand pump and the threat of a cramp in his left foot every time you brake hard. My mechanic has made some changes to the rear suspension, the bike has changed a lot and I did a lot of hard driving easier.

V4 engine, taken directly from the RSV4 Superbike R, Tuono costumes complete with the absolute abundance of power. Aprilia has just de-tuned a little ', to only 13 horsepower less than RSV4 Tuono R is hard physical work, when it hits the laps more than they really had to push me forward to keep the bike after the hanging the handlebar. Thunder chews all the short straight at Ricardo Tormo circuit than anything else, and soon it feels like the whole circuit is one of the corners in a row on the long start / end of the straight.

APR with the traction control can accelerate the onset of the lean Great security, and even at level one, it feels safe, even if some nice slip away from most of the curves. The only place in the Valencia circuit, where there is a moment of relaxation is directly downward, but also a formidable force and the wind pushes you back until it's time to brake while moving down the screen .

Later that day I decided to travel to short shifter more quickly to save my arms from the trunk, and it almost felt like I was a little slower. The three reports below on the Tuono R is less than the RSV4 and it hurts! Because of the significant rapid changes I made my way all the way up to sixth on several occasions. The slipper clutch is just as good to break hard to second ahead of the fast left-hander at the end of the straight line. So, everything is full throttle and smooth and a little wheelie all over again.

The Aprilia Tuono R V4 April we drive on the track was fitted with Pirelli Diablo Corsa 200/55-ZR17 rear tires and spare clutch and brake, which makes it even better than the standard I later, riding on the road. The rear tire section 200 simply offers so much grip, but still brutal Tuono makes mincemeat of that too given half a chance.

Angles are certainly in the Superbike standard and there is not much on this bike outside the wide handlebars and the absence of a dress that looks like a streetfighter. The bike that I can not imagine being able to compete ethically Ducati Streetfighter and has 17 fewer horses. MV Agusta Brutale is too soft compared to this.

In spite of going as hard as I could, or dared, Thunder is composed of only one machine and it is incredibly safe. I can not imagine never go wrong wrong with this bike, because it provides the pilot of mercy and forgiveness just spits back, "You can not drive faster than me?" Thunder is for those of us who want to go fast on road and track, and no one will ever find this bike boring. This is a testosterone on two wheels.

I have never ridden a nude that feels like a stable or suitable for race track as soon as April Tuono V4R regime 10K rpm climb above there is a high-tech exhaust sound, style, roaring mighty V4 MotoGP exciting . The rev limiter was set at 12,300 revolutions per minute, which can over-rev 800rpm if necessary. You will be surprised at the power of the medium Tuono is about 7000 rpm. The decline in the three gear ratios below simply reinforces the arm-wrenching acceleration. The Tuono is high and wide track provides a relaxing stay on the road, but on the ground, V4 engine ensures that you get your arm movement.

The V4 Tuono R APR has all the RSV4 Factory APRC SE was so involving a wheelie control the sweetness landings. On the road, this is not the easiest bike to wheelie because of Ride-by-wire and the sudden explosion of power. I had fun on the road by pulling up with pure power in second gear to anything between 60 and 75 km / h and just went as far as I could or revolutions. The Tuono is certainly a great bike wheelie. Traction Control to be disabled, or you will be disappointed, as the system quickly brings you back to earth. The traction control works by pressing the + or - on the left handlebar, while on the go.

So I stayed in track mode for all my laps around the circuit, the path of the road, I was in standard TAE Tuono V4R with 190/55 tires at the rear, levers and the traction control standard placed in a higher level and mode of behavior of the sport, which reduces the pair of lower gears. I played around with the traction control and find three levels to be really good for our horse in the mountains. It adds a security level of traction control. Later I changed the setting to have fun and also a horse. Riding hard on the corners with traction control is updated may not be enough to save a situation of gravel and oil, so I needed more traction control to turn a relatively secure.

The only thing APR does not accept or even have ABS brakes. Reliable sources tell us that Aprilia will start something good for the segment of ABS racing soon. I had a few moments on the brakes because they never reach speeds fast enough to make the brakes and tires, as well as work on the road or track. The Tuono V4R is a bit of the few on the road, so I recommend people to use the traction control with good results.

The seat is hard and not very pleasant, it does not take too many miles before I felt a little tree in my muscles seat. The Tuono is the kind of compromise, but it is miles more comfortable than the RSV4 superbike R. The Tuono is Roadbike V4R lead runner for a super sport, but with a more upright riding. Because I tell you the power and manipulation is there.

Conclusion

2011 Aprilia Tuono V4R April is perhaps the most extreme type Streetbike Street Fighter ever made. Aprilia have upped the stakes a lot. V4 engine and its 167 horses is one of the best bargains, and its handling is exemplary. Oh, yeah, V4R thunder is so good.

2011 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 Review

While the 1000 Ninja is a new model this year, as a brother co-developed with the Z1000, it feels more than a little familiar.

According to the Kawasaki Ninja was conceived and born on the side of the revised Z, which was released last year.

The decision to change their model years was partly in response to a perceived demand for most of the supposedly "naked" Zed, particularly in Europe. Furthermore, because the kinds of details involved in bringing a new bike market is a shortage of resources, said the Kawasaki Ninja 2011've found.

Speaking of the Ninja 1000 as a variation on the same topic in bicycle almost be summarized in one sentence and say that if you are familiar with the Z1000, and we can imagine the extra protection against wind and a little more than plastic and practically know the Ninja.

But to be honest, this is not true at all. Ninja-triple-alloy handlebar mounts is different from the Z1000 tubular bars. There are about 45 mm taller, 10 mm narrower and the grip angle is a bit 'different. Runways, even put a little 'in a relaxed position, and the driver of the passenger seat components Ninja and take advantage of more than 10 mm urethane padding. Cush This facility should add to the long legs of the potential comfort that comes with its capacity of 1.1 liters of fuel greatest.

And then there's the aesthetic impression, including a slightly softer sound contribution due to deletion "in December-scream" inducing resonator comes Z1000 avenues of admission and functional full coverage fairing with a windshield adjustable in three ways. The combined effect gives the impression of his own bike, which is somewhat surprising in view of the document - we have recently documented - the bikes are so similar.

"Ninja ... 1000 is a reply to design a workout that you Runaway repli-racer ..."

Kawasaki Ninja says that the 1000 is Runaway planning exercise response that is replicable pilots - which, although popular, is still less than a decade of practice-oriented track machines.

The Ninja 1000 (and Z1000) is a deliberate departure to take things back to the street riding with a kind of liberal infusion trickle-down technology to keep the fun quotient is high if not high enough on the street .

What is a name?

Packing 1043cc, the new Ninja 1000 to use the coveted nickname was invented in 1986, could legitimately be called a "1050."

Kawasaki admits an internal debate took place on whether to call a 10-something-else (not necessarily a "1050"), but those who like neat and clean "1000" name has won this argument.

And to be sure, the 1000 Ninja Street Cred established brand, and perhaps this was a magnetic attraction of the inner compass at least some sensitivity "marketing people" Kawasaki Heavy Industries, and thus dictate terms.

Daily bestial Street Blaster

Kawasaki says the demographic of bikes for 503 pounds, probably includes you. Unlike the 421-pound ZX-6R, which sells the hottest of the 20-odd years that have zero to little experience, and 437 lb-ZX-10R more bought by a similar demographic trend also in the elderly; more experienced riders, Kawasaki is billing the 1000 as a sports bike Ninja, each person for each type of behavior.

It is also expected to attract potential buyers ZX-14 refers to 567 pounds the bike is too big or powerful, and even some mature drivers that could have decided on a cruise, they are no longer able to be comfortable in a corridor easy.

With a capacity of 5 gallons of fuel, optional hard saddlebags and top box, heated grips and (prices not yet set), the Ninja would be a Sport Tourer 1000 is also fine.

If desired, the bags hard to make a fair match-up to previously beaten Triumph Sprint GT - but with a little more powerful. Nu would be perfect for hiking sports on Sunday, and the rest of the week will be a grocery getter valid or transportation to school, work, or what you have - stuff ordinary street.

Speed of the tool, the bike can be used to take days if you wanted. But six feet high, and with about a 34-inch inseam, I would have liked a little more for space in the cockpit Department rider like ZX-10R is to allow more people to move in aggressive cornering and braking. And if it was ours, we would replace the size of the rear wheel with a 190/55 as the stock ZX-10R comes with aggressive cornering, but otherwise no real complaints.

Care and Feeding for your internal Hooligan

Having spent hundreds of miles on Z1000, I was immediately comfortable with the Ninja 1000, and really think the bike is fun too. He seduced me take his desire to let off steam to a degree almost unhealthy and self-control is necessary to slow things in.

After a day of knocking around some of the most pristine areas of Northern California turns riding in the sea to the mountains and back, I interviewed a number of motojournalists experts and asked them if they thought this bike was a "hooligan", the appeal.

Maybe I'm tired, and perhaps there is still a better choice, because some people were saying maybe not so - but I step in there and make their voice heard and unequivocally say that operationally, this bike has all the charm of the pilot almost adventurous can ask.

44cc possession of more than the ZX-10R, and packing 65% more torque for a ZX-6R, which happens to hit at a reasonable price 7800 rpm, it pulls like a Lear Jet takeoff. This is a bike that does everything right on the rider replica on the street, but with a more sensible ergonomics.

With not too high as the preparation of the motorcycles come with ZX-oriented track and high center of gravity due to the driving position is also a wheeled machine in first, second and third almost.

That was all I could do to contain myself with this beast, and I was quickly test the gravity and luck in the gears of the first year, pull your knees, and generally try to break in a day.

I do not have to blow, but he did stretch the chain just use the revised mid-way, and for the whole trip was tickled by this bike is supposed to be a step toward health mental, in fact the opposite AIDS and Abet.

The rigid aluminum frame, wide tires and sticky, and the suspension sophisticated enough to encourage a rider who turns ever deeper. Relaxation and horizontal adjustable preload shock and link-41mm upside down fork - adjustable for compression, preload and rebound - are adequate. When the bicycle as Mad Max gets a little out of control on a rough road indeed, but it would have been composed later, and if not, let's say it works competently.

The rotors radially mounted 300mm Tokico front brake calipers tightened by 4-piston Nissin radial master cylinder actuated by the combined correspondence with single-piston caliper squeezing a rear 250mm rear rotor is more than enough.

In fact, the bike was supplied with brakes that half of the beds, but the abuse of some quickly took all the halfway house in the pipe and the brake will soon be strong enough to support the motorcycle on its nose and speed lock the rear wheel at will.

The instrument came from the Ninja ZX-6R, but with different sources and functionality. It provides the usual data required, including a clock and fuel gauge bar graph that does not fall too fast, even in sporty driving. The elbow of the position of the handlebars and footpegs Footpegs not-as-natural feel and leaves no desire to get up and stretch after traveling 150 miles drive.

The windshield three position is clear enough to see through without distortion, and a handful shall immediately adjusted without tools from almost vertical raceresque without tools. The bike seems a little awkward with the screen vertically, but the position gives the most wind protection, and it does not grow on you after a while.

Overall, we believe that the bike is decorated very aggressive and a delight to the eyes, but of course we'll leave you to decide what you think. Functional openings in the fairing is designed to increase air away from the rider, and to cool the engine and it is not just an exercise in style.

Conclusion

Ninja $ 10.999 1000 should be a little 'in December.

In short, the work of the bike. For many runners who are not interested in track days or racing, it makes more sense than a racer with lights.

As it is, in practice it is a racing game, though. It 'just a little' less concentrated than the ZX-10R 66 additional pounds of weight, but the improvement in bottom end power and friendly ergos.

Everything that we said that we are on the Z1000, this bike, and will be more protected from wind, fuel capacity and versatility of $ 400 more. This does not mean, how?

2011 Kawasaki ZX-10R Review

Though seven years have passed since Kawasaki introduced its first modern superbike size liters of displacement, it appears that only a couple of years and ZX-10R track first hit the streets.

Even harder to understand - especially in terms of the rapid evolution of products in the literbike wars - is that the new 2011 Kawasaki ZX-10R is the primary reason for the redesign of the master murderer from the introduction of the ZX 2004.

This iteration of Zed-X has received such a revision of this round go 'during the 2011 model recently introduced to the press Racecourse Road Atlanta in Braselton hilly, Ga, warned Kawasaki Motorcycle Karl Edmondson in the media "forget previous ZX-10R models. "

The revival of the ZX-10R

From top to bottom, almost nothing has gone untouched in the new 10R motor. The only thing retained from the previous 10R was a bore and stroke. Check-in-Chief Ed Duke comprehensive technical overview for more details.

Camshaft is now made of chromoly steel instead of cast iron. A soft-nitriding treatment Kawi new revised camshafts to reduce deviation (a "untruing" if you will, the straightness of the camshaft) in the metal hardening process up to 30-40% depending on the Kawi . Lift Cam and valve overlap increases as part of the update - a movement that is usually used to increase the peak power.

These temmelig Alt om Toer story cam os nogle tidlige indsigt the employer, manager om hvordan den Rebirthing hensigt Kawasaki 10R samlede pakka.

The lifters are designed to work with the new high-lift cams and intake valves' increased by 31 mm diameters from 30mm to improve cylinder filling efficiency. Exhaust valves (the head) are the same size, but a stronger valve springs work in all 'round.

Cylinder intake increased volume and is carried by hand, while according to Kawasaki Rob Taylor, redesigned the exhaust ports to reduce the engine brake and give the driver better control on the bike with more precise control of gas . Size piston skirt has been minimized by reducing engine noise. The use of "dummy" heads bolted in place while the cylinder bore means a machining process more accurate.

Improving the precision cylinder bore is said to be equivalent to less distortion cylinder high temperature operation, and it also allows the use of lower tension piston rings (let alone in years) to reduce losses mechanical. Cylinder axis offset (2mm) reduces mechanical losses and the load of the piston, allowing the use of lighter pistons. 13.0:1 compression ratio increases from 12.9:1, and Redline lit is increased to 14 500 rpm, where the previous model, the rev limit has been the mark of 13,000.

KIBS, it has nothing to do with the MIB (Men in Black)

Kawasaki claims its new anti-lock (KIBS - Kawasaki Intelligent Anti-lock Brake System), the lightest and smallest on the market, the scale is 6 kg, 2.3 kg of the weight attached to a larger battery with ABS ZX-10R requires.

According to Kawasaki, is a 2011 ZX-10R ABS with an empty weight of 443 pounds, while a non-ABS model weighs a hair under 437 pounds. If we take the Green Team to his word, is a saving of £ 21 from £ 458, we measured fully fueled, ready-to-ride, ZX-10R 2010 we drove our 2010 Bike Shootout liter. This defines a new ZX related CBR1000RR 2010 (437 lbs) - the lightest bike in the shootout. ABS trim Ninja is now about 10 pounds lighter than S1000RR with ABS (£ 453 measured).

KIBS have the most basic functions of ABS by controlling brake fluid pressure in the front calipers, but it goes even further.

If the rear wheel starts a hop, the system will purge persuasion, Freinet In the front to help stabilizing the bike. And of course, it monitors the front wheel like most basic anti-lock systems to prevent the blocking ORDER.

Without going into details, saying Kawi can be expected to see more of this new ABS or something similar on other models.

All this trans is optimized for use on track. Notice a theme with the new engine? (Hint: Kawi wants to race)

Some of the most elegant ZX-10R, the body has been redesigned hammer a new air intake is now more directly to be placed between the headlights. A box of 2.4 liters of air draws air through a filter with 48% more surface area. New design of the intake ports to work with the air box for a new engine performance has increased, especially in the midrange and high speed.

The fuel tank is reshaped to move fuel and lower back with mass centralization. Shorter, a front-to-back to the vessel shape also lends itself to the dimensions of the bike more compact, but the helm seat to get to not feel too tight. It became a cliché, but accurate, however, say that more like a 600cc literbike in size and shape.

A new small EFI control unit, mounted inside the airbox again, said a new fuel pump (and lighter, of course) to empty the fuel injectors with new 12-hole primary in new Mitsubishi 47 mm (more than 4 mm) Keihin throttle bodies, now more oval sub-throttle valves. The need to manually adjust the idle speed is eliminated by an ISC (Idle Speed Control) valve is automatically adjusted to 1100 rpm. Kawasaki says this helps the bike works best stops when the engine is cold.

Ignition coils with nine secondary current hit 12% more efficient to provide the fuel mixture burn.

Brains! Braiins! Braiiiins! The ZX-10R smarter yet?

Go up a table of UN ZX-10R 2011 an assistant you astride Who EST This is probably the most the streets of Kawasaki bikes intelligent fel Never.

This new super sledge, as expected, is equipped with traction control, power modes and rider-selectable (optional) ABS. Of these three systems is the TC that most impresses for its simplicity and efficiency. Furthermore, it is the first production TC on a Japanese sport bike.

Toisin KTRC (Traction Control Kawasaki) Kerran ensimmäisen havaittiin vuoden 2010 Concours 14 - TC järjestelmä, joka olennaisilta turvatoiminto - S-10R KTRC (Sport-KTRC) vähemmän huomattavasti häiritsevää him that tavoitteena lopullisena ja, Etta see JAAA nopeammin.

A driver can choose from three levels of TC (1.2 or 3) with a configuration like the least intrusive, it can completely change the TC. The three modes are swappable, so long as the throttle is closed. TC requires deactivation motorcycle to a stop.

The property system is revolutionary because it avoids the use of gyroscopes, sensors and angle of others - like those found in the BMW S1000R - and simply uses the sensors are commonly found in many modern two-wheelers.

The brain calculates the 10R data accelerator pedal position sensor (TPS), who sees what the rider wants the bike to do about the pace of acceleration of the engine, gear position and information from front and rear wheel speed sensors.

Comparing the number of switching between the sensor data every 5 milliseconds, the TC, which Kawasaki says, "predict" your intended path so to speak. It will create a mapping engine (s), plan in advance what the card should go from the sensor data from the pilot wants - or more precisely, data from GST. If a dramatic change in the data occurs, and TC analyzed this amendment would result in a significant deviation of the map, it was planned, it will remap accordingly.

Like a ghost in the machine-type things, "the type of CT system takes over and produces a pair when, naturally, there is no torque, because it is the traction control system," says Taylor, "no because you're spinning the wheel, but because it is trying to make it go faster ... if you are slow in time the system is overwhelmed and there is the torque or torque reduction for maximum traction. "

If this disturbance torque production version looks like a dangerous two-wheel of 2001: A Space Odyssey, to be sure that the TC system does not discharge a truck rear tire extra at the worst time possible. Taylor used a hypothetical scenario in which TC can increase torque by a foot-pound or two to reach his goal to keep you steam ahead, "go ahead" as he often said.

Because S-KTRC not use a fixed set of parameters for staggered into the engine to minimize loss of traction (which explains Kawasaki competitors), the system Kawi is able to adjust the data of the motor (torque product) the fly.

Rather than simply and abruptly shut off as a way to solve the problem; S KTRC fits, it is proactive. Therefore, the TC allows a rider to the power or power slide wheelie in a predictable way, as long as the bike is moving forward "in time." When wheel spin or other action, resulting in the bike slower, TC intervene to correct the problem.

S KTRC allows for deliberate to show off. The system allows the front wheel sensor input in case of rapid change in the speed of the front wheel, such as when you turn on the clutch lever, and hammer the gas deliberately lift the front towards the sky, but once again not until you 're just slow down because of hooliganism.

The idea that a TC system can adapt to conditions rather than simply react sounds a bit science fiction, and the above is a simplification of how it works. But it's a safe bet that if this system had not performed well enough to Kawasaki in MotoGP over the past five years, we would not see, or a version of it today on the new 10R.

The power mode has three driver-selectable settings.

F is for full power, M (Middletown variable mode) allows 75% of full power with a smoother curve effect, but will give you access to the full power depends on gas price for change. Example, if you slam the full throttle, the ECU gives you full force, and then return to the M mode again when you have relieved to return to power. L mode for low power consumption and allows only 60% of the power at any time.

As for the TC, the power space are interchangeable on the fly for as long as the throttle is closed a short second or so required, and does not require the clutch lever as S1000RR requires commitment.

TC Power mode selection switch are integrated into a single large switch on the housing switches to the left: S KTRC is located on the underside, turn. Finally, making a change to the TC does not change the settings for power saving mode, and vice versa. The options are independent of each other, as opposed to BMW S1000RR that comingles or create a combination of DTC (Dynamic Traction Control), and the power mode.

Dash spectacular new Zed!

A new dashboard for the ZX rivals Ducati MotoGP complex derivatives, and prettier, too!

A leading LED (no less contrasting LCD) bar graph tachometer coupled with a programmable shift light that can flash or pulse a few different rates of your choice and will change from yellow to red on the crossing point. Moreover, tachometer LED color rather than color backlit and you can adjust the intensity of the LED, allowing the ambient light sensor on the dashboard to fit automatically.

The rest of the instrument panel is all the LCD and can be replaced in normal mode and race mode. Standard room features mph / kph as the central figure, with the gear position to the right and the selection of the mode power supply and the S-KTRC right of this. Basic information, such as meter mobile and engine temperature are also displayed.

In career mode, gear position is at the center, where the road speed is normally displayed, the display mph takes a position of the clock in the bottom right, and the odometer is a stopwatch.

With TC game, regardless of the opinion that the instrument cluster has a chart graduated at the bottom center of the screen shows the activation of CT. No bar, of course, the means of traction control is not in play. But when activated, the segmented bar graph will rise and fall as an indicator of the amount of S-KTRC works to prevent you and your new bike wadding up.

Assemble the greatest ninja in the way

As I mocked 'round at Road Atlanta, I experienced firsthand the liberal nature of the TC, and that allowed me to access all the fierce power of the new engine as I could.

Follow the cold temps have to fight using the grippy Bridgestone BT-003 Type 4 DOT race tires. Even if tires stick like glue, it wears pretty fast (Techs called a sprint race tires), and by the end of the morning last back-end of the ZX was moving and sliding while I came and came out a few turns as aggressive as I ventured.

When the tire had a predictable, level 2 TC has enough movement on the back that I was able to walk through leaves of confidence and running in full power mode.

I attribute my need to endure a learning curve for a track that I had never ridden before and the reason I rarely activated while in the TC level 1, the least restrictive environment.

Road Atlanta has a number of blind corner entries is complicated by changes in altitude (read: Bakker), so I fully admit that at times wussing. My sense of self-preservation is probably the culprit, which would not allow me to press the accelerator to stop the engine moaning over 170 hp at the wheel. Guilty.

However, armed with a sense of security and electronic commerce Kawasaki nurse her back to a level of TC 2, my subconscious and a greater knowledge of the track has made me more confident of finding the limits of traction. Hence the slip slidin manageable "above.

For the afternoon sessions hottest Bridgestone BT-003 type II, Pro is installed. This ring uses an additional belt, and is therefore no longer wear because of its rigid chassis. This new medium compound rear improved feedback, and I've seen so much activity by the TC as I did when using softer compound tires morning sessions.

Perhaps the best quality S-KTRC is its transparency over time nature. Not once in my career was cut with force, causing the motorcycle to stumble and spray, while at level 3. Activation of the system is flawless and everything is not as strong as DTC Ducati.

Exciting as the new Kawi CT was used, I was excited as a new platform for performance.

Management is as easy as the previous model, but the new bike has a much more linear, the fluid motion of the knee vertically on deck time. There were no surprises in handling, falls into a sense of perspective that I have lived occasionally with the model last year.

I do not need adjustments to the outstanding performance of GMP shock front suspension or moved. The bike is controlled with reliable accuracy in every corner and were reassuringly stable even when I have to say, an "exciting" 165 mph is shown. (Other riders reported seeing a group of 185 to 187 mph. Good for them and their single, did nothing to lose lifestyle!)

The new engine is a screamer. Although the mid-range power is fixed and smooth, the new plant seems to be about 11000 rpm cam in a powerful rush of power at the redline. So strong is the new factory, which is sometimes a high rpm upshifts almost led to the clip-on is a Yankee from my hands, more than 120 mph.

Increased literbike Bar ... again!

At this point in the development of technical cooperation for the use of the mass market, S-KTRC Kawasaki completely redesigned on a bike run on the power of the rear similar to BMW, is a suggested price of just $ 1,000 more than the price last year of $ 12 799 are green team is giving away 2011 ZX-10R for a song.

BMW S 1000 RR 2011 with traction control and ABS Race sells for $ 15,430. Rings ZX-10R ABS with an MSRP of $ 14.799.

Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha have better speed up their game as soon as possible or risk profile of a decline in wars liter bike.
