Singles Club: Parlovr

As I'm sure you're all well aware, we're in the midst of the biggest commercial consumption season of the year. December brings out the shopaholic in us all, under the guise of showing those loved ones just how much you care. Well, why not show some strangers you care, too, by doing a little something good with some of that cash money?

Parlovr, that superfantasticamazing band hailing from Montreal, has recorded two holiday songs they're releasing and sharing on a pay-what-you-want basis. Every single cent of the proceeds goes to Avaaz.org, an organization working to narrow the gap between the Haves and the Have-Nots. Sounds like a pretty noble mission to me. Go here to hear the tracks and make your donation. In the meantime, here's more Parlovr to make your decision that much easier.

Zut Alors!: Deer Tick To Auction Bus For Flood Relief

It is an unfortunate thing about life that we live on a planet that is extremely dramatic and changeable when it comes to climate and weather. Sometimes, weather wreaks havoc on small clusters of the world's population, and other times, well, things reach truly horrific levels. Such is the case in Pakistan, where flooding has impacted potentially tens of millions of people. Just think about that for a minute. Pretty ghastly, right?

If you've been wondering what you can do to make a difference and help out, well, here's an option. The kind souls in Deer Tick are auctioning off The Flagship, their 2009 touring vehicle, to raise money for flood relief. Visit this here link for further information about the auction, which will be ongoing for three weeks. You can also donate to Oxfam at the merch booth at all dates on the upcoming Deer Tick tour. It's a long tour, so plenty of chances to open up the wallets. So go on. Do a little something good for those who need help in ways most of us couldn't even imagine.

Zut Alors!: Brian O'Connor Benefit

Los Angelinos, I hope you've gone ahead and bought your tickets for the August 12th Brian O'Connor benefit show. Bitchin' band brethren Queens Of The Stone Age and Eagles Of Death Metal are joining forces and sharing a stage to assist EODM bassist Brian O'Connor with his treatment costs, O'Connor having been recently diagnosed with cancer.

Personally, I find it horrifying that our society at large can have a new cell phone every other week and we as a nation can spend billions of dollars on ridiculous wars, yet we can't seem to cure a disease that afflicts so many people year after year. It just doesn't seem like our priorities are in order, sometimes.

Getting back to the point, as I'm sure we all know, hospital bills ain't cheap. So even if you don't live in LA, you can donate a little green to help Brian deal with things during this very difficult time. Bands give us as music fans so much, and it's definitely fair that we help when we can.
